One World Wisdom

My Sister Paula

This is the first chance I've had to email. I had to keep my phone open all day yesterday for David. He was in his apt. a block and a half away when it happened, working through the night and still at his computer when he heard the first plane hit. He finally grabbed the dog and cat when the first tower went down, and was running with them down the street as the second tower came down. He was so scared by the time he phoned, in tears, saw people jumping, he was so shook up. He went to his office, but it was desserted and he didn't want to be alone so I stayed on the phone with him. There were explosions going off around him that were also frightening, he didn't know what was happening, had no tv. The explosions we were told were from gas leaks in surrounding buldings. He finally got to my house at 7 last night. I tried phoning all of you but I can't call outside NYC. It's very wierd here. Sirens all day and night, planes overhead still, everything's closed around here, no one can go below 14th street, national guard are stationed on street corners stopping people . We're pretty well protected now. I don't know if they're letting people into Manhattan yet. Probably not. This is very wierd. I'll try to email again later.

David and I are still hanging in here. He's kind of weepy tonight. That Millenium Hotel that they're worried about collapsing is right by his apartment. He's getting really discouraged that he will be able to go home and resume his life any time soon. His cat is in the office he ran to and he had to leave her there, so he's very worried about her. We tried calling an animal rescue agency, but they can't get clearance to go down there either. Parts north of 14th St., I understand, have returned to normal, but I still can't phone out, there's no cars down here, the air is so bad people are wearing masks or covering their faces in the street. It's like a ghost town. The ATM's are out of money, many stores are still closed, food is under supplied in most places, forget even getting a newspaper, they aren't trucking anything down below 14th St. The sirens are calming down, still fighter planes overhead. It's all very, very weird still. I wish I could talk to you guys. It would be nice and comforting to hear your voice. Please keep writing. Love, Paula
